Life takes and takes and takes. My perception of this book (with the limited amount of understanding i might have) is the perpetual struggle of mentality changes during Japan's transition postwar. Naoji's struggles to be true to his aristocraric blood as well as not fitting among the rest, struggle of not fitting anywhere at alltogether with Kazuko loving her mother and taking care of her until the last breath, both have struck with me. The grief of losing people all around you in perpetual, yet slow change feels anguishing.
