1793 or The Wolf and the Watchman written by the Swedish author Niklas Natt och Dag. It is a historical fiction sort of crime procedural murder mystery novel. It takes place in 1793 on the south island of Stockholm. The book is divided into different parts and shows different perspectives of the characters. At first, it bothered me a bit because the story at one point completely switched from one perspective to another, but as the story went on, it all started to make sense.
The book is super dark and gritty, it really shows sort of the dark criminal underworld of Stockholm at that time and sort of having a lowe-class, their living standards, and their poorness and it's also got some really grisly brutal scenes of violence.
So if you really like violence and gore and this stuff you should really read this book.
The Glass Cage: Where Automation is Taking Us by Nicholas Carr is an acclaimed writer whose work focuses on the intersection of technology, economics and culture.
This book really gets you thinking about our society, what we've done or how we've improved in terms of automation and what is the long term impact on us as a society as a human race.
I don't agree with everything in this book. But it was very well written and made me think. And that's what I'm generally looking for in non-fiction.
The author's points are fairly nuanced, although he often focuses too much on failures while he correctly identifies flaws in technological adoption, he often greatly overestimates unassisted human ability.
Despite its occasional flaws, this is a book I recommend to anybody who has an interest in how technology and humanity do and ought to interact.
If you were looking to retell the story of one of the great lovers in Greek myth, you could choose Paris, whose love (or lust) for Helen launched a thousand ships against his city of Troy, and wiped it from the map. Or Orpheus, whose devotion to Eurydice led him down into the depths of hell to try to reclaim her.
The last mythical figure you might try to rework as a romantic hero would be Achilles, a one-man genocide whose defining characteristic was his unquenchable anger. All of us heard about the Iliad of Achilles many times.
In the novel, The Song of Achilles, Madeline Miller has found the lover beneath the bloodshed and fury. The story is told from the perspective of Patroclus, which I really liked. I like that Madeline Miller takes a relationship that is completely glossed over in the original Iliad. Patroclus is a secondary character in the original Iliad. So I like the fact, that she takes a little-known character that is so central to an important greek story and turns him into the narrator and the protagonist of a story. She doesn't portray him as some great forgotten hero but as just kind of an ordinary dude, whose entire life has been playing second fiddle. He becomes really good friends and eventually lovers with Achilles.
It is really well written, but I found one part that could have been done better. It is the part at the end, the emotional climax of the story. I think it should have packed a much bigger punch than it did. The reason that it didn't pack that bigger punch is that there wasn't enough time devoted to it. The majority of the book is devoted to the build-up to that emotional climax and then there is not enough time spent on the actual tragic ending. So for me, the ending felt very rushed. But still, I highly recommend this book.
The third book I read this year was "The Road to Unfreedom: Russia, Europe, America" by Timothy David Snyder who is an American author and historian specializing in the history of Central and Eastern Europe and the Holocaust. In this book, he turns to Vladimir Putin and his war on democracy – sometimes conducted on the ground, but just as often on social media, in the code controlling power grids and voting machines, and within the human mind. Snyder’s premise is simple: If truth is, in fact, what sets us free, untruth must lead to tyranny. It is that exact consequence that has occurred in Russia under President Vladimir Putin, Snyder argues.
Snyder chronicles the resurrection of totalitarian thought in early 21st-century Russia and examines how these views have shaped Russian domestic and foreign policy as Putin has grown increasingly dictatorial. Indeed, in the hands of Putin and his “political technologists,” disinformation has become a mode of warfare against European and American democracy. Snyder’s book offers a compelling analysis of recent political events, and an urgent call to develop a politics of responsibility that reaffirms democratic virtues and values.

The application of the Art of war is much beyond a battlefield. When you will read this book do not take it just from the perspective of a war, rather take it from the perspective of day-to-day challenges that you are facing in your life.
Much of this book speaks about how to fight wars without having to do battles. It also has a lot of strategies and leadership parts that will help you in your professional and also personal life. it is not an easy read, if you wish to get something from this book you have to sit and think about each point that is mentioned in this book.

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is a Gothic novella by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, first published in 1886. The story is a thrilling insight into a very dark Victorian London in which dissolute behaviour lurks beneath a contradictory covering of proper morals and respectability, letting human wickedness and evil run rife, and the conflicting powers of science and religion, both of which are very relevant to consider regarding the time at which the book is set, following Darwin’s theory of evolution, clash again and again, which is thought-provokingly explored throughout the characters of Dr Henry Jekyll and Hastie Lanyon.
What I really like about this book is the classic horror style it personifies, by starting in a relatively normal setup and slowly developing stranger events, until the twist reveals the secret at the end.

Some of the elements that drive this story, as our inability to communicate, and the way we hurt each other are surprisingly modern.

"Don`t judge a book by its cover." Well if you don't like this nice pinky cover of the book it doesn't matter because the content of this book will blow your mind. It is a perfectly written masterpiece by former investigative journalist Arpád Soltész.
The story of the novel takes place at the end of the golden 1990s when it was clear after the election that Mečiar would no longer rule and Lexa escaped. Robo Holub is long dead, Miki Černák is sitting in the base and Žaluď has just been shot. Meat offers an unconventional view of Slovakia's recent past, state practices and its connection to organized crime. It also tells us that corruption is deeply rooted in our society, as evidenced by other cases that are gradually seeping into the light of day.
