Wow. Wow wow wow. I have nothing else to say. This book was a pure perfection. Kalynn built a very gorgeous world with a not very gorgeous leader... But thats alright, because our main character Sophia is incredibly determined and she will not give up on anything she wants until she gets it-and she wants the king dead.
There is something in the way Kalynn writes, i cant decide if its some kind of a magic that makes me feel like im right next to the characters and living the story with them, or if its the immaculate creativity and talent that she used on taking a totally different point of view on the classic story everyone knows. Sophias character was so interesting to me, i loved her with every bits of me. I loved how brave,kind and honest she was, her persona only made me like the story way more. I also loved Constance, she was so familiar but so different to Sophia at the same time.
In overall, the book was AMAZING. I have finished it in two days and believe me, if i didnt need to get some sleep for the following day i would pull an all-nighter and finish it at the same day i started reading it. I definitely recommend, no matter if u are a fantasy lover, this is a must read.

Good idea, execution... nah

This book might be enjoyed by young (13/14 year olds) readers who are into "in your face" and easily-digestible feminism. It might be inspiring for them, maybe provide some fun way of consuming content dealing with how patriarchy ruled the world in the past (in the past... well....).
The writing is quite simple, and it almost reads like a fairy tale, which could be intentional. Characters are not very 3D. The conflict gets resolved right at the very end which doesn't leave room for longer conclusion after climax. Majority of the book was quite boring. I felt like not much was happening. But at least the romantic subplot was enjoyable.
I'd say that This Poison Heart (by the same author) did a better job at keeping me engaged with the plot and the characters. I enjoyed that one much more.
