George Raymond Richard Martin - narodený 20.9. 1948, Bayonne, USA. George Raymond Richard Martin patrí nielen v USA, ale aj na celom svete k najuznávanejším autorom sci-fi a fantasy literatúry. Literárni kritici ho pasovali za nasledovníka J. R. R. Tolkiena. Vyštudoval žurnalistiku na Northwestern University v štáte Illinois. Pôsobil ako novinár, učiteľ, editor scenárov, televízny a filmový producent. Svoju prvú knihu vydal v roku 1970 a od roku 1979 sa venuje písaniu profesionálne. Je držiteľom viacerých spisovateľských ocenení, cien Hugo a Nebula, ceny Brama Stokera či World Fantasy Award. Knižné postavy Georgea Martina majú mnoho tvárí aj komplikovanú minulosť, občas nejasnú motiváciu a ambície ako mnohí jedinci v bežnom živote. Žiadna z nich nežije nereálne šťastný osud, smrť môže zasiahnuť ktorúkoľvek z nich bez ohľadu na to, ako si ju čitateľ obľúbil.
