'More often than I can count, I've been asked if I would write an autobiography, but the time has never been right. The one thing I've always managed to do, whether at home or on the road, is to write new songs. I know that some people, when they get to a certain age, like to go to a diary to recall day-to-day events from the past, but I have no such notebooks. What I do have are my songs, hundreds of them, which I've learned serve much the same purpose. And these songs span my entire life.'

Úžasný počin Paula McCarteyho. Toto dielo jednoznačne patrí do hudobnej knižnice každého fanúšika a obdivovateľa legendy svetovej hudobnej scény, menom Paul McCartney. Isto zaujme čestné miesto hneď vedľa LP platní The Beatles, Wings a neskorších jeho sólových albumov.
Mimoriadne si cením komplexnosť tohto dvojdielneho knižného vydania textov piesní, ktoré napísal Paul od roku 1956 až do súčasnosti. Nie je to len obyčajný súpis textov pesničiek. Ku každej napísal svoje vlastné autentické spomienky, vyjadrenia a textové poznámky v zmysle osobnej výpovede o období, v ktorom konkrétna skladba vznikla, čo ho viedlo práve k takému vyjadreniu momentálnej nálady keď ju písal, a mnoho ďalšieho, čo s tou-ktorou skladbou súvisí. Tým je toto dielo mimoriadne obohatené.
V jednom nedávnom rozhovore povedal, že nikdy nevydržal písať si denník viac ako tri-štyri dni. Že jeho denníkom sú vlastne jeho skladby. Každá v jeho živote niečo znamenala a znamená.
