Turecký spisovatel Orhan Pamuk (nar. 1952) byl recenzenty literární přílohy deníku Independent charakterizován jako „jeden z nejnevšednějších a nejoriginálnějších hlasů současné světové prózy“. Je autorem řady knih, mezi nimiž jsou například Bílý hrad, Černá kniha a Nový život; v roce 2003 získal mezinárodní literární cenu IMPAC za román Mé jméno je červená (oceněna cenou Magnesia Litera 2008 za překladovou knihu, v dubnu vychází již druhý dotisk). V roce 2004 vyšel anglický překlad jeho románu Sníh, který byl označen za „dílo zcela zásadního významu pro současný svět“. V roce 2006 získal Nobelovu cena za literaturu.
